I read the other GEP thread & agree that my girl may be unable to cope due to “poor work habits” if she were to be selected. My girl may not be able to sit for 2 hours straight…She has started chewing her nails again…I know she’ll survive somehow but i don’t want to have to undo the bad habits in 3 years’ time.
Actually most teachers will allow the faster kids to read books after they finish the worksheets. Caring teachers will devote extra attention towards weaker students, not gifted ones, in a class of 25-30 kids. Boredom in class seems inevitable.
Most teachers do understand kids are just kids; we have all encountered high-achieving classmates who are inept in certain areas.
I think each parent will have to decide for themselves. Some parents view that GEP is not that desirable or suitable. they could be right. No free time is terrible.
I didn’t want to disclose to primary schools initially. I have always requested that the childcare principals not to tell the teachers. I didn’t want unrealistic expectations or giant ego.
But if the child has a moderate or serious issue like daydreaming or social skills difficulties, parents should be make an informed decision. Mine needs some movement to “stay alert & awake”. she doesn’t have ASD but she really likes to lie down… and so slouchy…
