I’ve been following this thread and we’ve also been getting reports that our son K1 is not paying attention and playing around with a classmate. Previously we got reports that he would ask to be excused to go to the toilet quite often, even in the middle of a lesson. The teacher asked if he needed to go to the toilet frequently at home.
One factor not mentioned yet is his reaction to material which actually is challenging to him. Since he is new to this preschool which has half the instruction in Chinese, he doesn’t understand what the teacher is saying. When he faces a level in a game which is challenging, he gets frustrated easily and wants to quit right away (I guess this is normal for a 4 yr old). Anyone have advice on teaching patience and perseverance through tasks that aren’t easily solved; maybe something they’re not used to?
On a side note, I dropped my son into a Lego based robotics class last Saturday and he loved it. The manager was a bit skeptical because of his age but after the 2hr class he commented that he didn’t have any problems losing interest or concentrating. I told him I wasn’t surprised because the class combines his two favourite things, Legos and a PC. These classes are more advanced than other Lego classes I’ve researched because there is an emphasis on programming the robots after building them. The manager said the Sat 3:30-5:30 slot would be able to accomodate 4 students (age 4-7) if our group wanted to sign up together. Weekdays also have a lot of open slots. http://www.robotics.com.sg/contact-us if you want to check it out.
