Hi Larry,
Thanks for your reply.
I have a diploma in Outdoor Adventure Learning from Republic Polytechnic.
I worked in the industry for 3 years as assistant manager/trainer/safety instructor.
Largely looking after the safety of participants, conducting team building courses for schools and companies.
Basically, handling of people who are under high stress environment. (Fear of heights/Fatigue/Panic)
I finally left the industry for a couple of reasons.
1. I was looking for higher income
2. I felt that I didn't have much to learn any more. (Interacting with different people daily was great, but I wasn't improving/growing)
3. I believed that in the long term, the outdoor industry in Singapore is too small and limiting.
Being a people person, and looking for a higher income job, my friend got me to join him in Insurance Sales.
I did that for a few months before I ran out of money and took up a job working in a bar. I love working in the service line and both my parents are in F&B. However, having first hand experience of how the long hours at work away from the family can break a family up, I am not keen to pursue this as a career.
After a couple of months part time, I joined Singapore Airlines. I was with them for 2 years and quit.
I enjoyed working in the plane, however, as I would sometimes say to friends, I could feel myself getting dumber.
Conversations were mostly shallow, materialistic, gossip. Friends that I made were few and the erratic hours meant I never got to see them. This coupled with an overbearing ex-boyfriend almost drove me to depression.
I quit SQ on a whim, when a friend approached me to join insurance again.
Now, one year into insurance, I am getting bored.
I find that even thou I deal with different people with different protection/financial needs, it works in a very simple way.
Let's face it, eventually my job can be done by a programme.
Now I'm looking for what I should do next.
I do enjoy being of service to others and helping people out.
I am very sociable and get along with people very well.
I am considering working in charities as I think that would give me a better sense of fulfilment.
However I have no experience in that area and am not sure how I can go about applying my skills in the industry.
What do you think?
I'm all ears for any suggestions.
Thanks! 🙂
