I almost got into GEP, almost qualified back when the test was compulsory at Pri 3. Kinda “fall through the cracks” type I suppose, because as I progressed through secondary, college, uni, there was always at least that one teacher who asked why wasn’t I in gifted programme and felt I was “different”. I survived but never quite fit into school culture. I wasn’t the high-scoring textbook memorizer but the one with the alternate viewpoints (that sometimes don’t fit into the “standard answer scheme”).

But I think the biggest issue is with the perception that GEP is for “super students”. Perhaps “giftedness” isn’t even the best term for such people. We’re more “wired differently” than “functioning at higher level” if you ask me.

What does everyone else think?
