This year marks my 10th Anniversary as a member of Mensa. To celebrate this glorious occasion, I decided it is high time I step up to the plate and give back to the Mensa Family.
So when I was asked to run with Team CS for the upcoming elections in Mensa Singapore on 25th March 2017 together with Lee Chin Siang for President, Eric Chan BBM for Vice President, Magdalene Chew and Larry Haydn (both for Ordinary Member), I jumped at the opportunity to run as Honorary Secretary.
While I do understand that this position will take up a tremendous amount of time on my part, I firmly believe that this is where I can contribute the most. I am a person who has a keen eye for details but yet able to always see the big picture in any projects that I embark on or are a part of, professionally or socially. As Honorary Secretary, paying attention to detail is part and parcel of the job and to be able to serve on the MC together with my team mates and any other member is the greatest honour for me.
As an event manager in my day job, I have organised quite a few seminars with 800 participants for each seminar whereby I have to coordinate every aspect from (choosing and) preparing the venue, marketing and promoting the event to managing participants' queries and feedback, and producing various reports for record and analysis for future seminars. My tasks also include coordinating a team of staff members and volunteers to make sure the seminar is managed not only efficiently but also effectively.
Together with Team CS, we have a vision of building a Mensa Family based on our simple objectives:
1) Create opportunities and a conducive environment to encourage friendships amongst members locally and globally
2) Support members in their aspirations, intellectual advancement, and personal interests
3) Foster a culture of giving and volunteering to encourage community service and service of humanity
While I may be new to Mensa Singapore and many of you may not have had the opportunity to meet me personally, I do hope to win your votes and be able to offer my contributions to the society in only the best way I can in answering to the call in last year's AGM for new members to step forward to provide leadership renewal and to mitigate the danger of stagnation in the Society. I know I have done the right thing by stepping up and wanting to be a part of the greater plans to bring Mensa Singapore to greater heights together with my team mates.
I have a passion for Mensa and love being in the company of highly intelligent members. I will be committed to the position of Honorary Secretary and will not abandon ship halfway. I will uphold all the duties before me and I look forward to be able to serve as your Honorary Secretary for the next 2 years and beyond.
