When we decided to run as a team for this election, we sat together to brainstorm ideas and plans on what each one of us want to achieve for Mensa as we believed that a team should have its goals and visions aligned. Collectively we have come up with the following objectives and plans that we want to initiate when we are elected into the MC.
Objective 1 – Create opportunity and environment to encourage friendship amongst members locally and globally.
Initiative 1 – Welcome New Members
Restart new members welcome lunch to orientate, also to conduct survey on their expectations of being a Mensa member, and to encourage suggestions from new members.
Initiative 2 – Digital Mensa
Develop a mobile app for members as a platform for ease of communication and discussion. As the mobile phone is now inadvertently the most used device in our everyday lives, having our own app will also promote virtual bonding among members especially those who are constantly on the go or living abroad. MC can push updates via the app on top of just depending on the FB group, forum and email. MAP Partners can also advertise their services in the app (possibly an income source for Mensa Singapore)
Initiative 3 – Go Global
Promote more engagement with global Mensa communities by encouraging more members to attend internationally organised events such as AMAG (Asia Mensa Annual Gathering) and EMAG (Europe Mensa Annual Gathering).
Initiative – Go Regional
Promote closer relations with our neighbour Malaysia by organising joint events, inviting members from Malaysian Mensa to our big events like the Year End Party and encouraging our members to attend activities in neighbouring countries (e.g. Malaysia Year End Bash (YEB)) etc. This will further be extended to members from Indonesia and Philippines.
Initiative 5 – Reconnect
Form a sub-committee to brainstorm ideas on how to reach out to lapsed members who may have moved to a new address or changed contact numbers over the years and attract them to renew their membership.
Objective 2 – Support members in their aspirations, intellectual advancement, and personal interest.
Initiative 1 – Ask Mensa
Create a think tank SIG for members to discuss serious challenges faced by humanity and come up with possible solutions. We can adopt various project management tools like Slack to enable discussions and manage projects. Findings can be published on Mensa website and Facebook Page for the public to view and for interested organisations to consider. We can also consolidate top ideas and suggestions into an annual year book.
Initiative 2 – Mensa Coaching
Organise seminars focusing on career guidance for those members who are studying, planning their careers, or aspiring to be an Entrepreneur.
Initiative 3 – How to be Smarter (HTBS)
Attract more high quality talks that appeal to members and provide a platform to attract like-minded members to stimulate intellectual and learn new knowledge.
Objective 3 – Foster a giving and volunteering culture that encourage community service and serve humanity
Initiative 1 – Love n Serve
Appeal to more members to step forward and volunteer in any capacity. E.g. student get a $10 discount for membership renewal when they help Mensa organise an event for members. This will help students lower their membership fee and make it affordable to be a Mensa member.
Initiative 2 – Good Deeds Day
Promote meaningful community service initiatives to members and raise awareness for charity or humanity related activities. E.g. International Day of Charity on 5 September, Earth Day on 22 Apr.
