Hi Michael,
Thank you for your good suggestion and a timely one. Yes I too believe it is time to review all past policies and conduct survey to understand the demographic of Mensa. I believe a lot have changed since you last join 25 years ago.
Previously the annual fee is set at those rates because Mensa Singapore only have around 500-700 members to maintenance all the necessary expenses (printing of Menews, admin service fee, etc) for proper running of a society.
But now we have more than 1200 members to shoulder day to day expenses and if more volunteers come forward to organize activities we may have an opportunity to optimize expenses yet maintain our services to members.
After being in Mensa for many years, the low membership count may not be solely due to annual fee. Quality of activities, value that Mensa brings to each member, and how many friends the member has in Mensa has direct contribution to the attrition rate.
That is why my teammate and I have redefine a new vision, a new aim and three simple objectives to help retain old members and attract new members.
Vision – Encourage friendships among members locally and globally.
Aim – Building a Mensa Family culture that welcome, value, support and respect every members.
Objective 1 – Create opportunities and a conducive environment to encourage friendships among members locally and globally.
Objective 2 – Support members in their aspirations, intellectual advancement, and personal interests
Objective 3 – Foster a culture of giving and volunteering to encourage community service and service of humanity
Please support us by voting for us. We need to be first elected into the next Mensa Management Committee before we can implement our plans and lead Mensa into the next "Smart" evolution. How can Singapore be a Smart Nation without first having Smart People.
